I Moved My Family From Kentucky to Florida: Why I Became the Relocation Expert I Wish I'd Had

By Mollie Younger October 6, 2026 6 min read

Mollie Younger relocated her family from Kentucky to Florida in 2020. Here is why she became the relocation expert she wishes she had, and how that helps you.

I moved my family from Kentucky to Florida in 2020, and I have never been more grateful for the career I built before that truck pulled out of Louisville. More than 24 years in real estate, 400+ homes sold, and a long run as a top-producing agent in the Louisville market over a long career taught me how to handle a deal. But it was the move itself that taught me how to handle a life. That is why I became the relocation expert I wish I had been able to call back then, and it is exactly what I do for families moving between the Bluegrass and Florida's First Coast today.

The move that changed how I practice real estate

Here is the thing: I had sold homes for decades before I ever moved my own family across state lines. I knew the pricing, the paperwork, and the negotiation. I did not know what it felt like to leave the only community my kids had known, to pack twenty years of a life into a truck, and to start over in a place where I did not yet have a coffee shop, a pediatrician, or a single friend. In 2020 I learned all of it firsthand, and the lesson changed how I work with every relocating client since.

Most agents know their market. I also know what it feels like to stand in the middle of a half-empty house in Kentucky and wonder whether moving to Florida was the right call. That is a different kind of expertise, and you cannot get it from a map or a market report. It comes from living the move, not just selling into it.

What the move taught me that a local-only agent would not know

A local agent can tell you about inventory and price per square foot. I can tell you what the move actually takes, because I have done it. The list is longer than most buyers expect:

  • Choosing the right community, not just the right house. Ponte Vedra, Ponte Vedra Beach, Nocatee, and Palm Valley each support a different daily life, and the difference shows up in the first year, not the first showing.
  • Schools and the logistics around them: drop-off routes, sports schedules, and how a parent who travels for work fits into the routine.
  • Insurance and flood zones: what coastal coverage really costs, which addresses carry flood risk, and how to budget for it before you fall in love with a house.
  • Storm season: what a Florida summer and hurricane season actually feel like, and how to prepare for it.
  • Commute patterns: the drives to Jacksonville, the airport, and the beach, and how they shape your week.
  • Building a new community and social circle after the move: the clubs, the neighbors, the coffee spots, and the people who turn a new address into a home.

You do not know what you do not know, and that is the honest problem with relocating. I have been on your side of that problem, so I see the whole move, not just the house. If you are still deciding between communities, start with the comparison, then bring me your questions.

The Kentucky track record

Before Florida, I spent more than two decades representing Louisville clients, and I still do. I have sold more than 400 homes over a career that has made me a top-producing agent in the Louisville market over a long career. I hold licenses in both Kentucky and Florida, including my Florida Broker Associate license, BK 3491648, and I carry the eXp Luxury Agent and Sports & Entertainment certifications. My recent Kentucky sales include homes in The Highlands and Anchorage, neighborhoods I know the way I know Ponte Vedra now.

From my Louisville clients

“Mollie helped us buy our forever home and sell our first home. We were under contract in 11 days, and she made an extremely daunting process feel easy and manageable. She was calm, honest, and one step ahead the entire time, and we cannot imagine having done it without her.”

Shara and Bethany, Louisville, Kentucky

One advisor on both ends of the move

Here is what that means for you: when you move from Kentucky to Florida, you should not have to hand your life to two strangers in two states. I guide clients between the Bluegrass and Florida's First Coast with one trusted advisor on both ends of the move. I know the Louisville side because I lived and sold there for more than two decades. I know the Ponte Vedra side because I live and sell here now. You get one person who understands where you are coming from and exactly where you are going, from the first search to the first school year.

That is also why the relocation hub exists: the honest, practical side of the move, the parts nobody puts in the brochure. And for the lessons I collected the hard way, start with what I wish I had known before relocating.

Mollie says

Here is the thing: the expensive risk in a move is not the house. It is choosing the wrong community and starting over. I moved my own family, I have done this for more than 24 years, and I will tell you the truth about whether a home and a community actually fit your life.
